Frequently Asked Questions

Q - It all seems so complicated. What does it take to get my project started?

A - It can look awfully confusing, but we're experts in solving problems. That's why we work with you in easy to manage and understand steps to make the whole process effortless.

First we schedule an initial appointment; either come to our office or we'll come to you. We then sit down with you to get an idea of exactly what you want, help integrate your design ideas and options from our extensive catalog of products, offer some good professional advice, and finally give you a rough estimate of the costs involved in the discussion so far. This way you have an idea of where you're going budget wise.

After your project and it's components are finalized, we will provide full scaled drawings of the project, helping you visualize what to expect upon completion.

Now the fun begins. You select the doors, drawers, cabinetry, interiors, accessories, etc,. This will allow us to complete the final estimate, ensuring you no hidden "gotcha" costs.

Q - What is the difference between European Style Cabinetry, Overlay Face Frame Cabinetry, and Inset Face Frame Cabinetry?

A - European Style Cabinetry is constructed with square box construction with doors and drawers that cover all of the cabinetry, leaving just a 1/8" space between adjacent doors. A crown and light valance is then added to upper cabinets, giving them a custom look.

Overlay Face Frame Cabinetry is again constructed with square box construction. The difference is that we then apply an additional 3/4" of the lumber you choose to the face of the cabinet, and then the doors are applied on top. When this process is finished, the spacing between doors and drawers is much greater, allowing the wood frame of your cabinetry to be seen.

Inset Face Frame Cabinetry is our trademark cabinetry style, and what we like to call "The Cadillac" of custom cabinetry styles. The primary construction is the same as Overlay Face Frame Cabinetry, but with a completely different look. The difference is the frames are much narrower in width, and we apply a hand mitered bead detail to the opening. We then inset the door of your choice to be flush with the inside of the square openings. This provides a much tighter and cleaner look to the face of your custom cabinets.

Q - How do I clean and maintain my cabinets?

A -Below is a general guide for cleaning and maintenance.

  • Clean the cabinet as needed with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild detergent or soap and water. Dry immediately with a lint-free cloth.
  • Wipe up spills, spatters and water marks as they occur, keeping the surface dry.
  • Use an emulsion-nonsolvent cleaner and polish, as designed for kitchen cabinets, on all clean surfaces as needed.
  • Avoid using scouring pads or powdered cleansers as these may scratch and penetrate the surface, allowing food or moisture to enter and cause deterioration of the finish.

Q - What variations can I expect in the wood?

A -You can Expect some variations in wood grain patterns and density. These variations are a vital part of the beauty of natural wood. The same stain applied to two pieces of the same wood species may result in somewhat different appearances (especially when comparing solid wood to veneers).

Color variations are caused by the assortment of minerals in the soil in which the tree was grown, rainfall, growing temperature, etc. All wood species can also exhibit sap runs, knots and pinholes in varying degrees.

Color changes through time will occur when wood is exposed to all types of light (normal and man-made). It is the general nature of wood to darken over time, some species more than others. The finishing process does not hinder this aging process.

Changes in heat and humidity. Wood is an organic material and will react to large and or rapid variations in these conditions, resulting in material reactions that can consist of, but are not limited to; warping, growth, shrinkage, splitting, checking, discoloration, separation at the joints and decomposition of the adhesives and finish materials.
